It is somewhat difficult to "Volunteer" when many of us are isolated at home with hopes of merely staying healthy in these difficult times... Reaching out ~ That is the way of the moment. I can't tell you how much little phone calls can perk up someone down or mopey. (Like so many nowadays) I think it is called TIME. Taking time to call and reach out. Talking with others and feeling special can make the difference in someone's entire day. (Or an email or text - all take only moments) And - that ultimate feeling. "I made a difference to someone" ;-) Little things have made a difference to us!!!
~ ~ ~ ~ * Thank you Deva for delivering strawberries ... *To Laurie and Gabe for paper towels etc ... *To Marjorie for a bouquet of flowers ... *And to Lynne and Jim for surprises on our doorstep! * + the many loving phone calls we have received ... Valentines is actually my favorite time of year.
While teaching, it was the excitement of the children and the sharing of sentiments and fun... Marrying Dave - Valentine anniversary. The cherished part of my life!! Volunteering - Taking others with me to help seniors make valentines for family, friends and each other. & This year = Working with others to make valentines and send messages to For The Troops. I continue to share the significance of volunteering. My book includes thoughts and tips + the wonder of volunteering that is so fulfilling. Sometimes (Most often) going to volunteer gives back more than one can imagine. It is about ... Making a Difference!
Today I was a guest for the annual CSUN Volunteer Awards Banquet in the name of Dottie Heitz "Granny"
The University celebrates volunteerism along with the spirit and excitement of Granny and all of us who cheered with her sharing with so many. A reflection on appreciation and energy and enthusiasm that are so important. Congratulations CSUN! You have grown into a magnificent and amazing campus and educational institution. Volunteers joined me in a day to always be remembered. Dresses were sewn with love and brilliance. A simple idea created a wardrobe for children in need in Ethiopia. Other volunteers actually made the dresses out of colorful t-shirts and donated material in bright colors and prints. The material was gathered and joined to the t-shirt to make a darling dress. (Could be in a fashion magazine as they turned out so cute.) We measured and helped to sort by size and package for shipping. The coversation was wonderful as the sheer delight of the dresses and the stories about the recipients. Volunteeering is joyful! Thank you to joyful volunteers who helped to make a difference.
This is the second year...and we are invited back for 2015! Residents of Atria in Thousand Oaks, CA, wandered in and out to make special valentines for relatives, friends and those special people in their lives. Our help encouraged creativity, dialogue and fun. We also made 90+ beautiful valentines to be distributed to residents that would find cheer and special greetings for February, Valentine time of year. This is what the holidays are about.
