A Moderated Panel Discussion on Parenting October 12, 7pm Conejo Valley Helping parents and helping children of all ages is the goal of this venue. The little tips, stories, and suggestions can make a difference in raising children today, tommorow or in the future. In October I will participate in the panel at Los Cerritos Middle School in Conejo Valley, California.
I will discuss JOYFUL PARENTING. There are so many ways to connect with our children, especially the junior high age. As the title of my book states - JOYFUL PARENTING: Before You Blink, They'll Be Grown! Let's reach them now and make choices to applaud/improve/understand the relationships. I feel fortunate to connect and share with my son, Michael.
Our once a week (or so) meeting is always great. It is exciting to share and dialogue - and see things through his eyes. I feel "you are only as old as you feel." Therefore, I stay young and ... celebrate the joys of my son. ;-) Boris Brott contributed to my book, JOYFUL PARENTING. His shared words are all about creativity.
Dave and I were just his guests at the Symphony and the wonder of him leading such a renouned symphony surrounds the entire audience. (That is "parenting" and then some...) What talent! His knowledge of the instruments, score, music, and bringing together so many musicians is the truest sense of creativity. Thank you Maestro! The day came to critique, dialogue, and share Garlic and Sapphires. I find it so amazing how this book (any book) can evolve into the most interesting and enlightening discussions. (Thank you to those who participated.)
It is interesting to discover the personal experiences, stories and thoughts that develop from reading a book. Author Ruth Reichl shared her passion for food, (service), and creativity. This created "food for thought" as well as "recipes" for life and food. As an author, I especially enjoyed her flow of words so that the reader is invited into her world and is "there" in the moment. I wish I knew a way to meet Ruth Reichl in person! In my book, Joyful Parenting: Before You Blink, They'll Be Grown, is a true story about different journeys in life. It is part of my Chapter entitled, Things Happen For A Reason. The astonishing story about Jason is --- Magic.
Look at him now: http://www.facebook.com/l/8c7685tULC9O96-BwBZR1Kk-D0Q;www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrhSE8g7Qhg Readers always ask me my thoughts about ... Parenting. I think it is the relationships throughout life in family and the everyday that make the difference.
A caring attitude is the secret! One day when I was visiting someone in need, in the lounge I saw a single book sitting on a table that just kind of winked at me. (They say that sometimes the right book just falls into your hands.) Garlic and Sapphires by Ruth Reichl is the book about the secret life of a food critic in disguise. To me it is the true example of understanding and how our actions affect others. Soon I will be leading a book discussion for AAUW about this book. Let's take note and recognize those moments and situations that ... can make a difference. |
