It is like a dream - We reflect on the places and interesting people and experiences. I am l-o-n-g-i-n-g to return to the exploration and adventure.
When safe I believe it will happen. Just patience is difficult at this moment. Oh Ohhhhhhh ... It seems travel has suddenly come to a standstill ;(
Dave and I had contracts to speak throughout the world during this 2020. Slowly each and every contract has cancelled. It is disappointing. We do have our health and were so fortunate to not be on a ship when so many have been stuck at sea. We have followed the stories of crew going here and there for days and weeks and months. Ports not opening. Lives affected. We can treasure our memories. We have been reading and learning more of ports and places, countries for future endeavors and dreams. We should have been leaving in a few days ... we are instead walking around the block each and every day. Feeling stifled yet free to see / hear new birds flying about and on our little fountain in our yard. We have met neighbors we never saw before. All in the same boat - so the expression goes. I had the opportunity to experience Spitsbergen - 600 just below the North Pole. A place not too many actually get to. Cold!! Fascinating! Reindeer running wild and I looked for a polar bear in this amazing world we all live in.
I have just had a fulfilling experience sharing throughout the summer with audiences on cruise ships.
It does not matter where the ship sails ~ it is the prep time to delve in and share the joy of the world with so many. Thank you for your smiles and conversations. I learn from each of you and this is a true joy. I have long been fascinated about the Iditarod in Alaska. I have read about this and kept up with the specifics and annual race. It was a "top of my list" to actually have this experience. I rode with the dogs on the path and the thrill was an eye-opener of the plight and endurance. WOW!
With some friends we actually visited the original homestead of the Ramona story. I was so excited as many of us have read Ramona and visited the annual pageant near Hemet. This though was the real homestead and it was as if the walls and history spoke to us! Thank you Sally Hibbits for arranging this experience. I am still thinking about it having now personally walked the path and will re-read Ramona by Helen Hunt Jackson soon.
The ambiance of France...walking...wandering...discovering...& wonderful days and nights with my son, Michael. The tastes of Barcelona, Spain. Tunisia. So different, fascinating, and always so much to learn... Arriving in Italy. Italia!
