This week I led a group of volunteers to spend the morning helping to work at Manna. What a fulfilling experience to give of our time to make life easier and better for others.
We donated the requested macaroni and peanut butter too. We sorted food so locals can get supplies to nourish and better their families. These experiences are such that I wish everyone could participate. Find the way because as you go home you are feeling far better than you can imagine. ;-) Traveling far away in Panama, Colombia and Costa Rica, I just learned of "volunteering" in different ways. Wherever we may travel and wander, people are doing wonderful things.
It makes me smile with fulfillment to know that volunteering reaches so many avenues near and far. Please go online to For the Troops.
The thank you letters from our heroes fighting for our country are heartwarming and we can help. How can you help? Write a letter or two or three. Collect some of the simple items that make a difference to an individual or a troop. Kool-ade/Sunday funnies/a granola bar....and more....make a difference! I went to For the Troops in Simi Valley to autograph and donate some of my Joyful Volunteering books for a coming golf tournament event.
What a feeling! While I was there I was asked to move my car as the postal truck arrived and needed the space. The visual! Seeing more about what volunteers can do. Teamwork! Volunteers gathered together to fill the postal truck with boxes for the troops. I previously have seen the items donated and the assembly line to fill boxes. Watching the filled boxes take the next step in the delivery to our troops overseas For The Troops (based in Simi Valley, CA) is a grass roots, nonprofit, all volunteer organization formed in 2006 by Janie Josephson and
Paula Cornell. People ask me about volunteer possibilities. Contact them as every little bit helps. & What a difference we each can make! ;-) Here is a partial list of what is needed and valued: Baby Wipes, AA and AAA batteries, DVDs and CDs , Granola and Power Bars, snack size Beef Jerky, dried fruit, raisins, nuts, Trail mix, Pop Tarts, individual snack items, gum, candy, Crossword, Word Search, and Sudoku Puzzle books, paperback novels, lip balm, toothpaste, toothbrushes, travel size games, stationery items, pens, blank cards and … letters of appreciation to the troops from children and adults. Congratulations to Joanne Chang! An amazing, energetic, friendly and super volunteer!! It was my pleasure to be there to cheer her on as a finalist for Senior of the Year in the city of Thousand Oaks.
It was with JOY that I shared the June 2nd Goebel Senior Adult Center dinner and entertainment to applaud the hours, activities and support given by so many in Thousand Oaks. Join me: Conscious Discussions - An hour-long talk radio show that celebrates individuals from all over the globe who are working to make the planet a better place. The International audience enjoys guests from all over the globe including Africa, Australia, England, France, Ireland, US and Canada.
April 21 - 10 AM (Pacific) Guests may call in at (646) 478-4758. www.brummet.ca/conscious.html I always forget how intriguing the steps of the City Hall in Ventura are. Walking up there and looking back at the view one wonders if only the historic building could talk?
What a venue to give a Keynote at and it was such a beautiful sunny day!Stimulating! The audience was filled with "volunteers" as well as those in the workplace who are encouraging and evolving volunteer programs of every possible avenue. Mayor Bill Fulton introduced me and spoke of appreciation and excitement regarding how vital volunteers truly are. I applaud Rosie Ornelas and Cary Glenn who organized such a meaninful event. It is enriching for me to share and expand Volunteering in Ventura and ... everywhere I can!
Ventura Mayor Bill Fulton will introduce me as the Keynote Speaker at the Summit as we hope to energize, encourage, and applaud volunteeers. http://www.conejovalleyguide.com/community-message-boards/post/1379375 |
