This is a photo of my mother, Miriam Small, with my brother and myself.

She was my best friend and we shared so very much. I share this loss with family, friends and all who knew her, or knew of my Mom. My brother, Harold Small, is the best big brother in the whole world and how my Mom beamed at just the mention of his name and the love of his devoted wife, Susan. My son Michael has sadly lost Grandma, the love and inspiration that will be with him always in his love of people and the world.

Mom has passed away on the week of her 93rd birthday. One of the highlights of our Mom/daughter relationship was Mom’s birthday, October, 1983. She admired the energy and spirit of Bernadette Peters, so I splurged and took Mom to San Francisco to the Fairmont to experience Bernadette Peter’s performance. Until this last year, for twenty-five years, together we celebrated our loving connection with the exciting anticipation and then an adventure/journey ever year.

I can truly find no words to begin to express my sadness, emptiness, loss and … how I feel.

The astounding legacy: If you have copies of my books and writings, please share with me by reading the words about and from my most precious Mom:

JOYFUL VOLUNTEERING: Making a Difference - Chapter 7 – Mom tells of her dedication to … Volunteering.

JOYFUL PARENTING: Before You Blink, They’ll Be Grown – “And in Conclusion - From My Beginning - A Letter from My Mom.” The entire last chapter is written by my Mom. The picture is her joy of being in the audience at my first book signing. The written words are her own, telling her life story. Never thought this would become such a treasure to me. xoxo
